Costa Rica means “Rich Coast”. Nowadays we have learned that the richness of our country is the Flora and Fauna, not the gold the Spaniards were looking for in the 1400s. We can make you an infinite list of animals, plants, trees and we would not end.

Actually every other day there are new species found in the world tropics and Costa Rica is not the exception. Thanks to the INBio, the Biodiversity National Institute, our RICH Flora and Fauna is been gathered and studied scientifically.

The Number of species in each group will amaze you, take a look:
  • Mammals - 112
  • Birds - 850
  • Insects and Spiders - 350
  • Amphibians - 200
  • Plants - 1200
