These are the most common questions we receive: - What your opinions are on coming during the rainy season?
Weather: Costa Rica is divided in Pacific and Caribbean slopes by the continental divide. On the Pacific side from Dec. until April is Dry Season. On the Caribbean side this pattern does not apply. As I say it, on the Caribbean side it can rain any day of the year… that`s why it stays green all year around. On the Pacific it turns dry, gray, brown, no leaves, because there´s no rain for 6 months.
Rainy season doesn`t mean that it rains all day, everyday. It means that it could be sunny in the morning and around 2-3 p.m. it starts raining for about 1-2 hrs and then it stops… Unless there is a cold front, storm, hurricane… etc… with that we can`t do anything about it. And also, no one knows for sure, or 1-2 months in advance when a storm will form for sure, or precisely the date and time it will start.
- We are concerned about the wet weather in May and would like to know how this would affect our trip?
May is the starting of the rainy season. For sure you´ll see rain, but it will NOT ruin your vacation…. Just bring a rain coat-jacket or an umbrella. They don`t call it rainforest for nothing…!!!
- We are of course open to your suggestions
Our suggestions depend on how much time you´ll have to travel, the budget you have and what activities you selected on the Reservation Form
- What are your suggestions we should do?
We always recommend the tours that will put you in contact with nature: Guided walks in the Forest so that you learn about the environment; Safari Float tours because it is easier to see wildlife on the sides of the rivers, like Monkeys; Rafting class 2 or 3 trips are for those who want to have some excitement on their vacation; a visit to a Volcano, either the Poas, Irazu or Arenal Volcano; Hotsprings afternoon to relax and rest (you´ll sleep like a baby afterwards…)
- What are the places we should not miss?
Places you should not miss: Arenal Volcano, Corcovado National Park and Osa Peninsula area, San Gerardo de Dota to see the beautiful Quetzal bird and the Cloud Forest, any beach on the Pacific or the Caribbean.
- Would love to know what you consider to be ‘must see’ or ‘must do’ activities as we are all first time visitors to Costa Rica?
Must see: Arenal Volcano, spend 2-3 nights to see the lava flows at night; Cloud Forest and the Quetzal bird; Corcovado National Park and Osa Peninsula area; the beaches in the Central and South Pacific; OR the beaches in the South Caribbean.
Must do: Guided nature walk in the forest, Safari float tour, Rafting, and last, the Canopy tour (only if you like heights)
- How safe is it to drive around the country?
It is safe in the sense that you will not be stopped by anyone on the road, but is not easy in the way that there are not enough signs on the roads, we don’t have street signs, so this means you have to stop on the road and ask the locals for directions, where to turn, to go back, and if you don’t like to ask strangers, it will not be easy to get to places. Basic Spanish words or phrases help a lot.
